Environmentalists Anonymous-Day 5

3-22-23

Happy Sunday,

Her Deepest Ecologies is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.

This past week was the spring equinox! For our writing warm-up we focused on signs of spring. Some people made lists, some people wrote poems, and others wrote short sketches about the changes outdoors they have observed over the past few weeks.

Poems of Gratitude

Following, we read and discussed a poem by Todd Davis called “Thankful for Now” which appears in the How to Love the World anthology by James Crews.

Here is the poem: https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/151352/thankful-for-now

Following, we wrote our own “Thankful for Now” poem, focusing on a moment in nature, alone or with others, that we remembered in detail. As mentioned in Crews’ anthology, this poem centers on the joy of presence. When was the last time you felt “thankful for now?”

The next meeting will be April 26th at 12 pm.

Also, I will be doing a reading on April 26th at Village Books at 6 pm.

Environmentalist Anonymous meets the 2nd and 4th Wednesday at Village Books from 12-1 pm. This is free and open to the public. I will email a synopsis of our gathering by the Friday/Saturday after and post on my substack page, Her Deepest Ecologies, for easier access (no subscription required to see writing group updates).

A note about April: There will be no *official* meeting April 12th, but we will meet April 26th at 12 pm. The tables will be available if you want to meet and work together, but I will not be there.
